NORTH HARRIS COUNTY CRIMINAL JUSTICE ASSOCIATION

April 2012 Newsletter

I would like to thank everyone on the behalf of our Vice-President, Captain Curtis Ruggles, Secretary, Betty Hogan, and Treasurer, Rodney Smith for their attendance and wonderful response we had for the March meeting.

Thanks to: Captain James Bolton and Lieutenant Chad Shaw of the Harris County Fire Marshall’s Office.  Fine presentation of what’s going on in Harris County Fire Marshall’s Office and the good work they do within Harris County.

I would like to thank our sponsors for the March meeting, Captain Robert Ray and the Union Pacific Railroad Police Department.

Many thanks and great appreciation go out to our April sponsor, City of Humble.

March’s guest speaker is Deputy Sandy Johnson, Harris County Sheriff’s Department Auto Theft Division.

During the May meeting, a representative from CLEAT Public Affairs Division will be giving a Legislative Award to, State Representative Dan Huberty, “going above and beyond the call of duty” for law enforcement officers and their families.

Splendora Police Officer Ryan Simpson was critically injured in an on-duty collision with an 18-wheeler that nearly took his life on March 19th. He sustained multiple serious injuries requiring several surgeries and has a long difficult road ahead. Texas DPS New Caney (Office) has organized a blood drive for Officer Simpson.  Donations can be made between March 21 and April 4 at any Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center location, using Group Code: D950FS00. To find a location, visit www.giveblod.org/where-to-donate/ndc. For more information, contact DPS New Caney office at 281-577-8972.

The Department of Public Safety announces with sorrow the death of Trooper Javier Arana. Trooper Arana was killed in the line of duty March 24, 2012, El Paso. Our hearts and prayers go out to Trooper Arana’s family.

Remember Easter is this month and May 29th is Election Day.  Also if anyone would like to mention any activities and/or events (golf tournaments, car shows, charity events, etc.) going on within the community, please feel free to contact a board member so that we may post it in the news letter.  If anyone has contact with Ed Lindsey, please wish him a speedy a recovery and hope to see him again soon.

As always I would also like to thank Al and Susie of Italianos’ Restaurant for their continued support and graciousness to this association.  Please continue to remember the wait staff; Gratuity is very much appreciated.

Don’t forget, the average cost for a single sponsor has greatly been reduced due to the money collected from members.  Each meeting/breakfast averages around $200 - $300 and sponsorships are always welcome.  Remember to pay your $5.00 at the door folks, in order to keep cost down.  Anyone or any member or members (co-sponsors) who would like to be a sponsor(s) for the upcoming meetings, please contact Betty, Rodney, or myself at 713-240-3021 or you can email me at Jeffrey.Shipley@dps.texas.gov.

At our March 6 meeting the NHCCJA membership voted to donate $1,000 to the “100 Club”. All dues paying members can complete an application and add a $5.00 donation to enter a drawing. Randy Russell, President of the 100 Club will draw 10 applications. Those members will receive a one year membership to the “100 Club”. NHCCJA will present a $1000 check to Mr. Russell to pay for the memberships. If you have not yet paid your dues, bring $15.00 and join so you can enter the drawing. Please complete your application before the meeting so we will not get hung up with the drawing. This will be a Win-Win situation for the “100 Club”, ten of our members and our organization.

A PDF application is attached to this blast, and copies will be available at the April 3rd meeting.

Special Olympics is scheduling two “Tip-A’Cop” fundraisers. One will be at Joe’s Crab Shack on April 13 and one at Texas Steakhouse for May or June. We will let you know when dates are determined.

Start your day off in a positive way and take an hour to visit with us, enjoy the monthly guest speakers while eating a great breakfast, building on friendship and meeting new people.

Happy Easter & God Bless

Jeff Shipley, President - NHCCJA

The North Harris County Criminal Justice Association (NHCCJA) is an organization that includes law enforcement officers from city, county, state and federal agencies. There are also numerous elected officials from many levels of government, along with business and community involved citizens that add to our membership. $15.00 dues are collected annually.

The Association meets the first Tuesday of each month at Italiano's, 217 FM 1960, East Bypass, in Humble, Texas at 7:00am. Meetings last one hour, and a breakfast buffet is available during the meeting. Each month a guest speaker presents a brief, informative program of interest to those involved in the Criminal Justice System.

All who attend are now charged $5.00 at the door. Please bring a $5.00 bill or a check made out to NHCCJA. Collecting this amount helps us find sponsors who then pay for the rest of the breakfast.

You and the members of your law enforcement organization are invited to attend the next meeting. You will be introduced to the members, and you will probably see many familiar faces.
